That Good Night: Life and Medicine in the Eleventh Hour
BY SUNITA PURI

That Good Night , by Sunita Puri eloquently took me through her journey of being a sensitive child, to walking in her mother's profession yet choosing a specialisation not in terms of approval with her parents.

A deeply felt experience of connecting with her patients, not only practising medicine but practising the strength and courage to break out about their medical condition confronting them and their families in the trivial situation.

The experiences with patients takes her down the memory lanes where she now understands her past in a different ways. dealing with lives nearing death gives a perspective of living life more gracefully. We all are heading towards death but most of us just don't know when is that.

the dignity of an individual is invaluable, which when compromised, one is  emotionally shattered. I realise the reason, back then why my grandfather was devastated when he was bed ridden and needed help for his basic needs. A quality life is more aspired than an extended life on the tubes and machines.
I often struggle because I don't know when to let go and when to keep fighting for, and this is when I will want to go back again and read the conversation she's so well penned down about faith. The struggle between expecting miracles and letting in the natures act, the idea that an external force is acting in our situation.

Reading this book has given me a lot more than an emotional insurance cover for the times of unpreparedness for events consciously never ponder upon, for the fact that it simply terrorises me to even think of such uncertainties. I now know that I need to gather myself ask questions yet attentively listen to the doctors who genuinely want to help and also I now know quite enough about the word "palliative care", which I didn't quite understand before reading this amazing book. Thanks to my boss Dr. Contzen Pereira who landed this book to me, it is a lovely feeling that a book happens to you and turns out to be one of the best things to come across.
I am deeply touched by this lovely book, written by a genuinely beautiful being, A big hug and thank you Doc. for sharing your profound experience, this will make a lot of it easier for me.
